Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

In New York State is there a way to find out if a deceased relative had a will and if so is there a way to obtain a copy?

If the will had been probated, or at least filed with the court, then it is public information and would be available for copying. Probate usually occurs in the county in which the decedent last resided.

Contact the Surrogate in the County where the relative resided at time of death. A Will;, being a public document, can be viewed at the Surrogate's office or a copy can be obtained for a fee.
