Legal Question in Workers Comp in New York
hurt at work
I got seriously hurt at work and went to a lawyer to sue the employer. That was about 3 years ago. The problem is that the employer sold all his propertys and the business i worked for was dissolved. He has since used several other business names for his company. My lawyer said we would have to prove that he changed the name to avoid paying me. He also said that was almost impossible to do? I cant understand this. Why is it so easy for him to avoid paying me?

I received your post on 2-13-2001.
How you can sue your employer is an usauall task..since the idea of WC is that you cannot sue your employer. I cannot answer this question without an answer to this basic threshold question.
Sorry...and Good Luck.
