Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Zealand (Aotearoa)

Collecting on a New Zealand debt

I loaned a New Zealand business about $14,000 last year. It was to be a short term loan and I'm not certain that at this point they are planning on paying me back. In the contract there was a provision that if the loan wasn't repaid that their home would be sold and my loan paid off out of the profits. There have been several things that they were supposed to do but decided not to. Because of this I want to insure that I get repaid so I'd like to place a lien on their property. How do I go about doing this? Do I use the standard UCC1 form? Do I need to work with an attorney in New Zealand?

Thank you very much,

~Lynn
