Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New Zealand (Aotearoa)

Access to a will

Are wills a matter of public record in New Zealand? My uncle (lived in Auckland) died in Sept. 07. He had told my sister his estate would be divided between his five nephews and nieces. Is there a way of finding out exactly who the beneficiaries are?

Thank you

Re: Access to a will

Wills are not a matter of public record. They should be held either by the person who made the will, by their solicitor or by some other professional advisor.

You should find out who was the solicitor for your uncle and contact them.
