What are you trying to do? Are you a plaintiff or defendant? Are you trying to schedule a hearing date or did you merely receive notice that a hearing has been scheduled for a particular date?

My advice would be that it depends. If you are a defendant and have been sued, then you do not have to appear. However, a judgment will probably be entered against you. If you are the plaintiff suing someone and are trying to get the case heard, then you have to be there or the case will be dismissed.
