Legal Question in Bankruptcy in North Carolina
I have a civil summons to appear in court today on a very old debt. I have other debts too and will need to find a bankruptcy attorney. I am disabled and receive social security benefits as my only income. I have barely enough money to live on and no assets. I am seeking advice and/or referral.

You may not need to file bankruptcy. You should consult a lawyer and many of us will meet with a client without charge for an exploratory conference. Your social security may not be reached or taken by a creditor, with or without a judgment. Social security payments made to a bank account are protected from creditors as long as it is not mixed with other income or other funds.
The Legal Answer most people file to protect wages, real estate and bank accounts. It sounds like you are judgment proof which means that bankruptcy would just give you peace of mind, that is stop he creditor calls.
You should talk to the creditors and explain your situation. They will probably stop the harrassment.
