Thomas Zimmerman Zimmerman Law Office

The State Bar of each state provides for 'pro bono" representation. The bar may have a referral service wherein lawyers sign up and agree to take referrals. Pro bono work is a component of professionalism and many lawyers represent clients without fee as a routine part of the practice. Any needy person should first call the State Bar Association to see if a referral can be secured and if not successful, call local lawyers. The larger the practice and firm, the greater amount of pro bono work is done. The United States Bankruptcy court allows self filing and filing fee waiver for indigent filers. If a person has no means whatsoever to retain a lawyer, even for consultation, then that person may be judgment proof and collection activities would not be effective even in the absence of bankruptcy.
