Legal Question in Bankruptcy in North Carolina
i owe hospital bill...i did not have health insurance can't afford....called them and was willing to pay them but, they will not accept my paying less than what they set, and i can't afford this...plus it is 9.2% interest....can i set the amount of payment i pay a month here in north carolina without this going to collections and my credit rating being affected...

The Chapter 13 option allows you to pay off some or all unsecured debt with no interest. It all depends upon how much you can afford. At the end of the plan period, up to 5 years, with most plans being 3 years, any balance not paid to unsecured creditors is discharged. Your credit report will reflect the fact that you filed bankruptcy, but the credit rating is dependent upon multiple factors, including how regular you make other installment payments.
