Legal Question in Business Law in North Carolina

My husband's employer has misplaced receipts my husband has turned in for purchases on a company credit card. The employer is now insisting my husband pay for these purchases out of pocket. The purchases are for items for a construction job the company is currently working. Is this legal?

Any attorney will say the easy solution is to turn in copies of the receipts again. If you don't have copies, or can't get copies from where ever your husband bought the items, you can always try and sort it out using your local Labor or Employment Development Department. It seems, from what you've said, that the employer was the negligent party here, "misplacing" the receipts. Taking that route will likely irritate the employer who may take retaliatory action, even dismissing your husband. Consult with a good business - labor law attorney in your area for specific advice.
