Legal Question in Business Law in North Carolina
North Carolina gift certificate law
I am wondering if there is a NC or federal law that prohibits expiration of gift certificates purchased with cash. For instance, movie theater gift certificates purchased that have a face value for $5 for a specific theater given as a gift. They have an expiration date printed on the front. Can they still be redeemed even if they are past the specific expiration date?

Re: North Carolina gift certificate law
I beleive that there is a law or case holding that a gift certificate purchased for cash cannot expire. I do not have a specific citation to that authority.
