Legal Question in Business Law in North Carolina
I recently resigned from my job. One my last day a prevention loss investigator was accusing me of clocking my employees in when they were going to be late. The investigator said he had proof though he didn't show me any. He then sent me a letter saying that if I sent him a check for a certain dollar amount within two weeks he would have the company I worked for turn me into the police. He threatened me not to talk to anyone and that he would handle this privately to ensure I don't get sued. He questioned my mental stability and told me he thought I needed help and that if I paid him what he wanted that he would close up the "investigation." It was my last day of work for this company and I had never once been talked to or questioned by my employer until this man identifying himself as a private investigator said they were accusing me of anything. What can I do to get this guy from harrassing me and threatening me to pay him money?
