Legal Question in Business Law in North Carolina
I run a home-based greeting card business and have been for the last three years. I did some work for a customer last month and now she's refusing to pay me. I've tried calling her but she's not taking my calls. Do I have to take her to small claims court or do I have other options to get my money? We did not have a contract. And what can I do in the future to prevent this from happening again?

Your only options are to continue to demand the money from her or sue her. Unfortunately, the only way to prevent this from happening is to demand payment up front. Unfortunately, there is a cost of doing business which involves either losing business because customers refuse to pay up front or risk not being paid in every case.
