That would be a "trade secret." A trade secret is a piece of information that the owner wants kept secret that provides the owner of the secret with a business advantage. In the USA, it is usually protected by state law.
Legal Trivia: The most famous trade secret of all time is the formula for Coca-Cola. The recipe for KFC is up there, too.
