court summons

If an officer comes to my door to serve papers to appear before a magistrate can I simply not answere my door? Is there any law against that.

Yes-you can simply not answer the door. This will not prevent you from being served, but no one can force you to accept service. The opposing party can simply send the summons to your last known address-file notice in the local paper 3 times and it is presumed that you have been served. The hearing will proceed without you. In other words, you can't purposeley hide from service of summons. I may have a cheaper solution to outright retaining an attorney at this point in time.
