Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in North Carolina

North Carolina child support question:

I filed for child support through Social Security office.

My ex-husband filed for child support through NC civil court in Mecklenburg county.

The date is set for May 27th 2014.

He is asking for Motion of Continuance based on my unemployment.

What should be my step here to make sure I get the child support that I am eligible for?
