Can a store employee search a customers purse if the sensor goes off?

No, the store employee can reasonably detain you and call the police. The police may then search your person and your purse.
If I am in a store and the sensor goes off, I know I didn't steal anything. I am perfectly willing to hand-over my purse, my bag, and whatever else because I know they won't find anything stolen. If you actually did steal something, you would not want them to search you. So, are you a thief who is wondering how you can be caught? Or is this an innocent situation?
Either way, you probably need a criminal defense attorney.
