Legal Question in Technology Law in North Carolina

.wav and .mid files and copyrighting

Recently I used some .wav song files and .mid audio song files that I found at various places on the internet to use in a PowerPoint presentation for work. This presentation was for a meeting, was not sold nor duplicated or distributed. My I/T Department was up in arms over the legal liability I may have opened them up to. Was this a serious offense? And, what could the legal ramifications be from my using these files in a presentation for our employees?

Re: .wav and .mid files and copyrighting

I believe you infringed the author's

copyright by using their files in your

presentation. Just because you found

something on the Internet does not give

you the right to use it in your presentation.
