Legal Question in Consumer Law in North Carolina
my daughter put a deposit of $500 using her debit card on new furniture that she custom ordered. Circumstances said she could no longer get it. She asked for a refund and was refused. She asked for store credit and she was refused. Does she have any recourse?

Unfortunately, this depends 100% on the written contract. If the agreement makes the deposit non refundable, she may have no recourse.

I agree with Mr. Love's assessment of your situation. Unless the contract provides a right to cancel and/or some provision for a refund she may not have any recourse.
