Legal Question in Consumer Law in North Carolina
I have all documentation to support the following:
Switched home phone svc. from Verizon to Time Warner Digital in North Carolina. I Waited 2 wks. for TW to verify my account in good standing with Verizon and obtain the phone number. They switched my service as promised and I was now billed for TW digital phone svc. including local and LD svc. As I have in writing, TW cancelled my phone svc. with Verizon before switching my account.
Verizon sent me a bill for LD phone calls made from the date of cancellation of their svc. for the next two months followed by collection notices, followed by calls and letters from collection agencies. The amt. of $300+ dollars is now on all 3 major credit bureaus.
I have written to dispute this with supporting documents to the collection agencies who then stopped contacting me. But the credit bureaus refused to change anything even with all supporting docs.
TW passed the buck to Verizon. Verizon passed the buck to TW. One or the other has ovbviously abused FCC regulations and I'm caught in the middle.
Do I sue? Do I contact the State Attorney General and file a complaint? This may seem like a minor issue but my credit was always excellent and now it has affected my credit standing.
Your advice is appreciated.

While you probably would not be able to find a lawyer to take your case given the low dollar amounts, if it was me, I would see about complaining to the AG and I would bring a lawsuit. If Verizon is the one reporting it and you have documentation that TW cancelled service, I would probably sue Verizon. Look for actions under the Fair Credit reporting act and unfair and deceptive trade practices.
