Legal Question in Consumer Law in North Carolina

My elderly aunt bought a used car a couple of months ago. The car started shaking and making lots of noise so she took the car back to the dealership. She had put $2000 down on the car initially. The car was serviced for free but still had problems. She was told by the dealership that they would find her another car. A month later, they did but said she needed to write them a $1000 check for this new check. She asked about her $2000 down payment from the other car and they said that was a separate transaction and gave her the run around. She thought she was gonna get a refund for the $2000 but never did. Does she have any legal recourse?

Unfortunately, there is no lemon law in North Carolina for used cars. It sounds like they are trying to suck more money out of her. It si time to cut your losses and go elsewhere for the next transaction.
