Legal Question in Consumer Law in North Carolina

i have been on a month to month lease for the last year. my landlord sent me a letter asking me if i wanted to buy the house at 99thousand dollars. he says that if i dont want to buy it then i should consider this my thirty day notice.is this legal?

Yes. You are on a month to month. He only has to give you 7 days' notice unless the lease provides for 30 days. He is giving you 30 and an option to buy! He obviously wants to sell the place. If you do not leave, he can evict you. You can stay to buy yourself some time, but better to leave on your terms, not his.

After you are out, clean the place up and take pictures. Schedule an inspection after it is clean and note any problems on a move out inspection sheet. That way, you can avoid any problems if your landlord does not return your security deposit and/or tries to allege you damaged the property.
