Legal Question in Consumer Law in North Carolina
I purchased a vehicle from a Virginia car dealership on 3-30-2010. Paid cash(check) for the car. I have received three sets of 30 day tags awaiting the title to the car. On 6-26-2010 the last 30 day temp tag expired. I have been told by the dealership that the title is in another state. The vehicle is now parked in North Carolina where I reside, as I am unable to legally drive the car. What are my rights?

This will be governed by Virginia law and I am only licensed in GA, PA & NC. I am assuming that the Virginia dealer sold you the car without actually having title and now the dealer cannot get it. I would first contact a Virginia consumer attorney to find out about Virginia law. See if Virginia has an agency that regulates car dealers, akin to the NC agency and file a complaint with them. Before you do that, you might want also want to ask the attorney if it would be a good idea to write the dealer and see if you can get a refund of the money that you paid and give him the car back. Word for the future - if the dealer does not have the title in his hands, then don't buy the car. This dealer does not appear to be reputable.
