Legal Question in Consumer Law in North Carolina
I signed a contract for a rent-to-own instrument... the company has since been sold and is under new name/owners. My contract says nothing about giving them the right to transfer and the new mgmt is refusing to give me an itemized statement to validate what they say I owe, negotiate a new contract, or give me a payoff quote AND is threatening collections... is this legal???

Unfortunately yes...this is why I hate rent to own agreements. Unless your agreement specfically prohibited the sale of the premises, the owner could sale and you are stuck with the new owner. You may need to consult an attorney as you do have rights to an accounting.
