Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

Collections

After I was Honorably discharged from active duty I was supposed to recieve 6 months of additional medical coverage, but because of a typo in my records (which is being corrected very slowly) I have not been covered and am now being sent to collections. After the paper work is processed I will be able to resubmit my claims. But I am already being sent to collections and my credit will soon be ruined. Right now I am trying to get in touch with my creditors so that I can explain to them the situation. Will that help? What else should I be doing right now to prevent collections on other accounts? And how can I get this erased from my credit report when this whole ordeal is over? I just got back from Iraq in Sept 06' with not a blot on my credit and now 3 yrs of service and paying off debt seems for nothing! Who can help me?

Re: Collections

That sounds tough. You probably need to send written letters asking for verification of the debt. There are a bunch of websites you can look at it but these responses do not allow posts. Do a google search for Fair Debt Collection and you should see some website from the ftc, privacyrights and fair-debt-collection

Some of the sites you find may have sample letters.
