Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

co-signer on vehicle loan

My boyfriend is the primary on a car loan i am secondary. Is there anyway i can get out of it. He is mentally and sometimes physically abusive and this vehicle is keeping me from moving out. He makes 72k a year, i make 25k. the payment is $634/monthly....I cannot afford it and pay rent too... If the bank takes it how much of an inpact will it have on my credit since he is primary and makes 3 times more then me. He first said if we split its mine, then he said he would just let the bank come and get it, if i refused to take it. Already tried trading down but there is already 8k in negative equity and we had rolled over 5k from last vehicle. What can I do? Thanks

Re: co-signer on vehicle loan

If he is abusive, you need to seek help notwithstanding what may happen to the car or your credit. One resource is the North Carolina Commission Against Domestic Violence.
