Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

Credit card collection

My mother has accumlated cc debt and is having a lot of difficulty in paying this, she is only receiving ss payments as income. My father owned the home, had both his name and my mothers on the deed. My father passed away last year and my mothers name is listed alone on the deed since his death (I assume). Would the cc companies be able to force a sell of the property if she dies before we (the kids) could acquire the property if they get a judgement? We really want to keep the house in the family to pass on, we are scared of losing the one thing my father worked so hard to attain to make sure we all had somewhere to go if we needed a place to stay. What are her options, if any?

Re: Credit card collection

Yes - that is a real possibility - if the house is owned free and clear. See if she can consult with a legal aid attorney, if she qualifies, to see what steps she can take.
