Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

credit card debt from 2005

I have a debt with Discover card. Due to illness and divorce I cannot pay entire balance. I have $3500 I can pay on the $9500 debt. They want at least $7500. I dont have it and no means to get it. Should I just go to court and see what the judge can work out or what

Try to find a consumer attorney to help you. I don't what type of defenses you may have, if the statute of limitations would pose a problem for them, etc. I would make sure that i am very careful not to admit things in court. The court is not going to settle it for you. They will either rule for you or against you. Only you and Discover can work out a settlement and you might want to get help if you can. Or do a lot of reading on debt collection online or at the library.
