Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

Credit Card Payoff

I am enrolled in the Consumer Credit Debt payoff program. One of the credit card companies refuses to lower the interest rate from 20.97 APR, therefore my payments are just going to interest.

I cannot afford to increase the payment. I have

had perfect payment history for one year on this program. Would they change their mind if an attorney contacted them on my behalf? If I refuse to pay any further on this, what can they do to me. At this rate, I will never be able to pay this off.

Re: Credit Card Payoff

There may be a counselor with the Consumer Credit Debt Payoff program, who can help you.

If not, I suggest you talk to a lawyer about filing for bankruptcy, either a straight bankruptcy or Chapter XIII.

If you can't afford a lawyer, go to Legal Aid. Most bar associations also have panels of lawyers willing to help at reduced fees.

Good luck.
