credit report

A while back we were contacted by a credit card comany trying to recover a debt, we informed them the statue of limitation was up and they dinged our credit are they allowed to do that?

Re: credit report

There are differences between statute of limitations for bringing a lawsuit and putting negative info on your credit report. I believe they have seven years to report the negative info. This is not the same as being able to legally collect it through the courts. So although they may not be able to get a judgment against you, they can still put it on your credit report.
