Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

debt issue

I had a credit card debt written off as a bed debt, a collection company purchased it, now they are contacting me and saying I now owe them money. What are my legal rights, and options?

Re: debt issue

When your debt is written off as "bad debt" it unfortunately does not disappear. When debt is "written off" it just means that the credit card company is writing it off its books for tax purposes (generally). A debt buyer can still attempt to collect the debt. When the debt is sold you may be able to settle the debt for significantly less than the original amount due. You should speak with a lawyer as they can most likely negotiate the best possible settlement or eliminate the debt completely depending on the circumstances in your case. If you would like to discuss further please feel free to send me an email.
