Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina
Disputing a judgment
Once a judgment is in place, is it possible to dispute?
6 years ago in NC I was involved in a 3 mile an hour car accident. I was never notified of any money owed or that it went to court and a judgment was put in place. After reading the police report and bill from the body shop, the repairs made were not from the accident I was involved in. Can I dispute this amount even though it has been to court and a judgment is in place? (Since I was never notified)

Re: Disputing a judgment
You will need a NC attorney, but yes, if you did not have actual notice, you PROBABLY can attack the judgment. They possibly gave notice by "publication", meaning if you can not find a defendant, they should not be able to avoid litigation by "hiding", so sometimes you can "get service" by "publication", but you will need help to check this.
