Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina
Execution of Judgement
I received a judgement for a computer that was purchased in 2000 last year. Made arrangements to pay $100/mo, but lost part-time job that was using for repayment. I was already in the process of closing on my first home for myself and 3 kids. I now own a home, but am on a serious budget. Received an exemption form from the lawfirm a few days ago for my property. Can the company take my property for the $1000 judgement or is there something further that I can do. I opened this account years ago to build my credit and now it is back to bite me. I was a lot younger and irresponsible at the time but am aware that this is my debt. Is there anything further that I can do for resolution, or will my home/property be seized. Please note that I am a hardworking mom and am not trying to get out of my past debt. I have worked very hard for what I have now even though it is not very much. My financial picture is not that great right now - but I am trying to make it better. Please advise if possibly I should contact the lawfirm or if there are no options left.

Re: Execution of Judgement
You must fill out the exemption form!!!!!!! If you do not fill it out within 20 days of it being served on you, you will lose your exemptions. If you have a mortgage on the property, that along with properly filled out exemptions make it very unlikely that they will be able to execute and take your property. If you need help filling out the form, contact an attorney immediately.
As far as the debt, you can always make payments to the Clerk of Court who will apply it toward the debt. Keep in mind the judgment will accrue interest and you might be responsible for costs and attorneys' fees.
