giving out loan information

Is it legal for a company to call someone other than the person on the loan and give out information about the loan to them?

That could very well be a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act - one distinction might be whether the person making the calls was the actual creditor or a collection agency as they are defined. Creditors are exempt from some of the laws.
