Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina
Harassment
I have a credit card company that continuosly calls and gets down right ugly with me at work.after more than repeatily i tell them they may not call me there, because i am not allowed to acccept personal calls, they tell me they don't care! The owner of the company had called me into her office to let me know that this company had spoke with her several times and had told them the same as i have and yet they continue the calls.they will call me at my home 5pm-9pmnot say anything.i'll hang up and they call right back.this goes on till 9pm.
and when i do talk to them it is in such a demeening manner i.e.how dare i not pay this debt when i own my own property(which i don't)demand large payment that i do not have and i offer a smaller amount that i can manage and they flat out refuse, tell me to get a lawyer and papers will be served by the sherrif's dept.at my place of employment ect...i can keep going with what they are doing ,but i hope this gives you a general idea!!Can they do this!!!!!!!!

Re: Harassment
Unfortunately, these collection gangs have great leeway to harass you in NC. Try writing them a letter and informing them that they should not call you at work. If they persist in doing so you will forward a copy of the letter to the Attorney General. They cannot directly threaten you. They do not have to be polite either. There is a thin live between legitimate debt collecting and outright harassment. I may have an cheaper solution to outright retaining an attorney at this point in time. If you are interested in obtaining access to legal advice for this and any other issues that may arise without the need to pay out big bucks first, please e-mail me and I will send the info out to you.
Either way, I wish you good luck.
