Was an estate ever probated for your husband? Or was his estate such that it did not justify probate?

However, if you want to do this on your own, send the creditor a certified letter. Advise that this is your husband's debt, that you are not responsible for his debts and that he is deceased (provide a copy of the death certificate).

Explain that no probate was initiated as he has no assets (only say this if it is true; otherwise, if there is probate, then the estate attorney or executor has to notify the creditors).

Ask them to close the account.

If this is all too much, I can help stop the calls and letters for a reasonable fee.
