Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

My husband who is not a licensed plumber installed a bathroom without permits and was shorted 525.00 in payment. There is no signed or written documents and they are claiming they have paid to date. Do I have any recourse to get the 525.00 owed to me?

Sure. Your husband can sue in small claims. The problem is that your husband is not licensed. And if he sues, he can expect that homeowner will file a complaint with the plumbing board. The homeowner can also claim that your husband did not do adequate work since he did not obtain the proper permits.

If it were me, I would leave it alone and pray that the homeowner does not file a complaint. For the future, ALWAYS use written contracts. Even if your husband did a perfect job and obtained the permits, he should have a contract. And get a license.
