Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina
A lein was put on my townhome by an attorney hired by the HOA because I failed to pay my HOA dues. In the letter, the attorney wanted me to send him the payments but I sent it to the HOA instead and paid what I owed. The attorney's fees is another matter. what happens to that lein, can the attorney proceed to foreclose on my property even though the HOA dues have been paid?

Oh dear. Neither the HOA nor the lawyer really wants your property. They would prefer the cash and for you to pay to pay your bills on time.
What I would do is get a copy of my check. I would also see if the HOA cashed your check or get a letter confirming the payment from the HOA. Contact the lawyer by phone and explain what happened or send a letter to the lawyer with proof of payment and explain what happened.
For future payments, send to the attorney as you have been directed. Without looking at the documents I cannot tell if the attorney fees were proper, but as long as the HOA complied with the law, you are probably going to be stuck.
