Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

A local general contractor defaulted on payment of a bill for $9300.00 in 2009. What is the statute of limitations for a claim this size and what steps do I need to take to try to recover the amount owed.

The statute of limitations does not depend on the size of the debt owed. It begins to run as soon as the right to institute suit could be maintained, i.e., at the time of the default.

Why have you waited until now? The statute is 3 years in North Carolina for most things and time is running out depending on when the default occurred in 2009. I would go and see a civil litigation attorney now to review your documentation and determine if suit can be maintained.
