Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina
Recently, I called a credit card company (Related to Best Buy) over a debt I have with them. The interests had gone way out of proportion and one of the customer service representatives offered the following: Pay 80% of the debt in 3 days and the debt will be liquidated. I called back and forth about 2 more times in order to gather further information for the payment. Each representative claimed to have a note on the agreement. At the end, the payment was made and all seemed to be just fine and dandy. Next month I receive a bill for the difference (plus taxes) of the remaining 20%. I called and now they are telling me that such settlement never did happen. That they have records of my calls but that all they did was suggest to me that I pay for everything soon.
The only evidence I have of this is the name of the first representative written on the bill at the time. The amount I had to pay, how much they were saving me from paying, the % number of how much they said I'd have to pay in the agreement.
Is there anything I can do? They had said that they would very likely record the calls at the time. I have nothing to hide or a lie to tell, so if such recordings exist, the truth is also there.
Please Help!!

You may want to contact an attorney. It is unfortunate that you did not get anything in writing. At the same time, if you took some notes and are certain this was to settle it, you could talk with an attorney about bringing a lawsuit against the collection agency.
