Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

recieved bad checks in N.C.

Hi, my wife is a mural painted and recently completed an intricate sports mural in her clients home. She was paid with three seperate checks for her month long project. I deposited the checks in our personel checking acct. It turns out that all three checks were returned for insufficient funds. They total about $7000. We just learned of this and have had chercks bounce from our acct. Her calls to the client have gone unanswered so far. What recourse have we legally? Thank you for your time. Jack
