Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

US refund contract?

Was notified my mail of a government refund. Company requested we sign a document and send back to them for them to start the work. We did, but 2 weeks later we received a document stating they needed our SSN and a signature with a notary seal. We refused to complete this form. I went online and found the money myself called and worked with a person at HUD for the refund. I faxed all needed paper work etc. 3 weeks after we received our refund the company tried to collect 20%. Do they have a right to this money since we refused to send our SSN/signatures and did it ourselves?

Im sure other folks are getting these types of mailers and would like to help them not get into a situation like this.

Thanks for any commits!

Re: US refund contract?

Don't know exactly what you signed. You may want to consult with an attorney in your county and bring the documents with you.
