Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

I sued my exhusband who was living in maryland and won a judgement against him. A month later him and his wife moved to California. She is in the US Army so they are still considered resident of maryland. I am now trying to collect the judgement but do I continue going through the Maryland courts or do I need to register my judgement and go through the California courts?

Thanks

I live in North Carolina

Why are you talking to me? If you obtained a Maryland judgment and your husband has moved to California, you will need a California attorney to advise you about recording a foreign judgment in California and having it enforced as if it were a California judgment. Each state hs different laws, but the procedure is largely the same under the Enforcement of Foreign Judgments Act. The act allows one state to give "full faith and credit" (i.e. to enforce) a judgment entered by another state so long as the defendant was given a chance to defend and that state had jurisdiction over him.
