Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina
Being sued in NJ when I live in NC for anold credit card bill
I have lived in NC since 2007. My mother in NJ at her address recieved a letter adressed to me from NJ Civil Court that I am being sued for a credit card balance of 1900. that has not been paid since 2005.
They are suing me in the county of NJ where my mother lives. I haven't lived there since 1980.
I looked up NC statue of Limitations online and the info I recieved was there was a 3yr SOL.
Why am I being sued in NJ? What jurisdiction does NJ court have to do this.
What should I do?
I live outside of Raleigh.

Well - you can hire an attorney in NJ to dispute the fact that you were properly served and raise a statut of limitations defense.
