Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina
My 16 year old daughter received a citation for shoplifting and has a court date next week. Does she need an attorney? What is the likely outcome?

If you don't know the answer to your second question, that's a pretty clear indicator that she needs an attorney. Each district attorney and the district judges have their own policies with regard to how they handle certian crimes. Under certian circumstances, some may offer ways for your daughter to keep this charge off her record - assuming some sort of plea negoation is best for her. You should consult with a local criminal attorney to help you determine the best way to handle this charge.
