Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

I have an assault on a female charge that i plead guilty to in 2009 that is keeping me from entering the Navy or getting jobs that I am over qualified for because it is taboo to most companies. I live in NC and I am wondering if i spend money to get my record expunged would that come off to where i could have a better shot at entering the Navy or possibly getting a job at a factory or warehouse? I have a charge from high school for disorderly conduct in a public place in 2006 and other charges that were dismissed by the D.A. Please help!
