Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

my ex boyfriend and my cousin broke into an old abandoned house and got caught by the owners they used my car when the cops came I was afraid for my cousin because he's never been in trouble before he is overweight and has health problems so I told the cops I was there because I was afraid for him I didn't know what to do I don't have many family members left in his brother already committed suicide and he talked about suicide so all I can think about was protecting him I did Timd in jail and got bailed out and they all know the truth everybody the cops my lawyer i told the truth i told them I was not there my cousin and my co defendant said the same that I was not there there's no evidence proving that I was there my lawyer is telling me I am facing time is trying to get me to make plea and I do not want to make a plea because I'm not guilty so he want to take it to trial but I I'm afraid to because what if they decide to steel pan me with this then I'll get the full instead of what they're giving me now and I do not think its fair at all I know I should have not took up for my cousin but everything was happening so fast and I wasn't thinking clearly when I said what I said what should i do I don't want to go to prison for 3 years for something I didn't do please help me you can look up everything you want if you have to I don't care I'm telling the truth please help me

There is not much any of us can do. You have an attorney...follow his advice or get a new attorney. Unfortunately, there are consequences to our decision. I understand you were trying to help a family member, but you have to realize you committed a crime either way. Either you committed the burglary or you lied and impeded a criminal investigation, which is also a crime.

It is 100% up to the District Attorney whether to press and continue with charges or not. It appears they have declined to drop them. This means either you plea or you go to trial. Speak to your attorney about your concerns.
