Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina
My brother in law sexually assaulted me 3 years ago and I want justice. What are my rights?

You want justice after 3 years? If the assault was a misdemeanor you may be all out of justice - the statute of limitations is 2 years and may have already expired. If he more severely assaulted you to felony status there is no statute of limitations on that so call local law enforcement where the incident occured. Of course after 3 years you are gonna have to explain what took you so long and deal with loss of evidence. If it comes down to your word against his - expect your justice to be a hard fight just to get him prosecuted let alone convicted. Best of luck!
