Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

I was charged with misdemeanor assault w/ deadly weapon however, the offense was over tailgating, I was driving too closely to somebody. When the original sentencing happened, I assumed it was being chalked up under traffic, not criminal, and now it's standing in the way of me expunging something else. Is there something I can do? The expunging is for something different. I was never pulled over, it was literally somebody going to issue a warrant on me with no actual evidence.
