Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina
Hello I was in a college dorm room in a argument with someone. People over heard the argument and came into the room, I did not want anyone in the room so I kicked the door shut not knowing at the same time someone else was attempting to enter the door the door struck her and gave her a concussion. I am facing a class 1 misdemeanor. What is the likelyhood of me being convicted

Very possibly. Without knowing all of the facts its hard to say. You need to hire a criminal defense attorney. A conviction may affect your ability to live on campus or even remain a student at your university if the school feels it is unsafe to have you there.
You don't say what you are charged with and the facts you provided are inconsistent and contradictory. For example you say people '. . . came into the room' but you then imply you kicked the door shut to keep people out and that you had no idea people would be coming in. Its kinda hard to argue you didn't know people might be coming through the door if your shutting that same door with the express purpose of keeping people out. However, most crimes require intent in order for you to be convicted. The facts you did give us, sort of indicate this may be an accident. So based on what you have presented, you should be fine if you hire a decent criminal attorney. However, like O.J., you may still get popped on the civil side of things which doesn't require such a high standard as intent. Even if you didn't kick the door into the girl intentionally, you should have known people come through doors and you even admit you knew people were coming and that's probably negligence on your part.
