Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina
I was contacted by the nc dmv fraud department and they said they have me on face recognition of obtaining a fake Linceses 16 years ago. I do not remember this incident but they say they are not trying to file criminal charges but need to fix the mistake in the system because it is an old case. They are wanting me to write a statement saying that I obtained a fake licenses but did not have any financial gain. I do not remember having a fake ID. What should I do?

If they know it is you - why would they need a statement? And why would DMV need a statement to fix their own system? It may not be the case here but generally speaking when law enforcement or government agencies are asking you questions or for statements, its because they don't have what they need to do something nasty to you and they are hoping you will be stupid enough to provide it for them. Your best bet here is to consult with a local attorney - some ID related crimes are felonies!
